Tokyo. A city of people

Tokyo. What an amazing city. The most populous in the world. But surprisingly it is clean and efficient and beautiful. It is not the claustrophobic skyscrapers I was expecting. It is not that 'dense'. Skyscrapers for the most part are fairly short by modern city standards, but instead the city is spread out. It's a big city, compared to Manhattan where they build on top of each other due to limited island space.

I personally choose to tackle this behemoth of sight seeing destinations by booking hostels 3 days at a time, attempting some couch surfing, doing some day trips and taking my time, maybe one suburb or part-thereof on a daily basis.

This photoset is from my first hostel up in the North-east corner.
I went for a walk along the river to orientate myself and visited the Edo meuseum which explained the history of Tokyo city over the ages.

Sumida River. Tends to flood a bit so they build a wall and turn it into a run path.

Some nice bridges every 800m

Decorated along with art & screens of famous paitings/kabuki theatre of the generations

Leaving the river and heading further East away from the city. This is Tokyo city residential.

Residential area broken up with more-than-expected parks & recreation areas.

Tokyo-Edo meuseum. This is how they made their art. They painted a 'layer' onto a wooden block, and then used carving insturments to cut it out so it turnes into a 'stamp'. Then, after lots of stamps are made each one coated & ink & printed eventually made the paintings which are so famous. So much finesse and allowed books & comics to be in existence very early.

Great museum. VERY detailed models of the city designs & society function. Got a real feel for how its changed.

Walking back from the museum, ran into this guy & decided to talk to him since he played so well.  He comes down here of an afternoon to play since he doesn't want to disturb anyone in his appt complex.  He has been playing for a year.  Want's to visit Australia one day and play some of his saxaphone.  Still a beginner, but such a cool sound echoing around the underside of bridges, the water and walls.
