Cortina Ski Field. Most Epic Day Ever

I have gone to the ski fields in Hakuba Valley not far from Nagano. Don't know how long I'll stay here but definitely going to get some snowboarding in.

The snow is pretty amazing here and I've been getting lucky with warm, sunny, clear days and fresh snow overnight. Couldn't ask for better conditions.

Anyways, this particular mountain called Cortina is actually about an hr bus ride away and is a bit more of a journey to get to. Since it was closed one day due to 'too much snow- avalance warning' and then it dumped another 50cm that night, we decided to wake up early & share a cab with a few other backpackers all the way out there for an amazing day.

In absolutely no way were we wrong in that decision. The day was, and is, and will be; one of the most epic and amazing days ever experienced.

One of the friends/backpackers had a head-cam and I edited his footage together.
It was the kind of day that you see on tv. Powder spraying everywhere, falls and tumbles are the funnest things ever, and the trees were so full of snow. The weather was beautiful and wow. Everything about the day was perfect.

Since it was a Monday it was pretty quiet too. We were still finding untracked powder at 3pm.

Get this. The ticket came with a free lunch ticket and a free onsen ticket too. The total for the day's skiing was only $35. Utterly ridiculous

What.a.day.

Nagano - Snow Monkeys!

After a great few weeks in Tokyo, and a few days with Mako and her family again in Tokyo, we made our way up the mountains to Nagano, to visit Masako's brother in Ueda.

Being with the family again was nice, it feels really comfortable being with them all they're all such a great family.  All of them love to talk lots, and if no one is listening continue to talk to themselves anyway haha!

The few days we had in Ueda were spent mainly going to nice mountain Onsen and eating delicious food.  Difficult life eh?  But we did go to see the Snow Monkeys.

A good drive through some snow to the mountain and then a good little 30 min walk or something to the hotsprings.  Only one 'clan' of the most dominant monkeys in the area are allowed to use the hotsprings and they kick out all weaker clans :P.

Cute as little blighters.  Their mannerisms and docile nature while taking a hot bath is very humanoid and fascinating to see up so close.

Serenitiy :)

Baby monkey had his seat taken by a bigger monkey.

Aaaaaahhh

Soo relaxed

Baby monkeys who have too much energy just play fight on the snow all the time and don't go into the boring pool

My lens was fogged from all the snow and made a weird effect.

Masako's Gallery in Tokyo

Masako came to Tokyo and had a bit of a gallery at a cafe/bar guesthouse lobby.  Good atmosphere.
Heres a sample - most pics I uploaded onto facebook.

Nice hostel.  Old Japanese style.  Very rare in Tokyo.  Rated one of the best hostels in Japan consecutively.
